Managed Detection & Response (MDR)

In the latest in our series of cyber security jargon busters, we give the low down on MDR.

MDR stands for Managed Detection and Response. It is a cyber security service where a company pays an external supplier for a package of tools that will monitor their network and protect their data and assets round the clock.

An MDR solution will detect threats as well as providing a team of experts to respond to them and recommend remediation when issues are uncovered.

It is a much more modern and proactive approach to cyber security that doesn’t rely on ticking boxes at a certain fixed moment in time and instead provides a continuous level of protection that minimises the risk of a successful cyber attack or data breach.

However, because the solution is outsourced, the company doesn’t need to hire its own internal team to carry out the monitoring, something that would be too expensive for most small and medium organisations.
