Vulnerability Scanning & ASV Scans
Vulnerability scans help you stay one step ahead of cyber threats by identifying known weaknesses in your systems, devices, and networks.
They’re a fast, cost-effective way to find potential security issues before attackers do, and they’re a key part of any strong cyber security strategy. At Securious, we can carry out both internal and external vulnerability scans, as well as ASV scans (Approved Scanning Vendor scans) required for PCI DSS compliance.
Benefits of Vulnerability Scans
- Spot issues early: Vulnerability scans uncover known vulnerabilities like outdated software, misconfigurations, and missing patches, before they can be exploited.
- Reduce risk: By fixing any issues found, you reduce your attack surface and lower the chances of a breach.
- Support compliance: ASV scans are a key requirement of the PCI DSS.
- Track improvements over time: Regular vulnerability scans help you benchmark progress and prioritise investment.
We recommend running scans monthly or quarterly, depending on the complexity of your environment and the level of risk you’re managing.
How it works
We make the process simple:
- Scoping: We work with you to understand what needs scanning (internal network, internet-facing systems, cloud assets, etc).
- Scanning: We run automated scans using trusted tools to identify known vulnerabilities.
- Reporting: You receive a clear report highlighting any issues, their severity, and recommended fixes.
- Follow-up support: If needed, we’ll walk you through the findings and help you take action.
Vulnerability scans can be delivered as a one-off service, on a regular schedule, or as part of our PCI DSS Compliance services.
Vulnerability scans vs ASV scans – what’s the difference?
A vulnerability scan is a general-purpose tool used to find weaknesses across your environment. These can be external scans (for testing your public-facing infrastructure (e.g. websites, firewalls, VPNs) or internal scans (for assessing the security of systems and devices within your internal network).
An ASV scan, on the other hand, is a specific type of external vulnerability scan required for PCI DSS compliance. It must be performed by a certified Approved Scanning Vendor (ASV) and follows strict guidelines set by the PCI Security Standards Council.
