In a new series of quick cyber security jargon busters, we give the low down on Zero Trust
Zero trust is a cybersecurity buzzword that’s been popping up more and more, but what exactly is it? And how can it keep your organisation more cyber secure?
In the past, all computers, servers and other devices in the same physical building would be on the same network and would therefore ‘trust’ each other. This meant someone with access to an organisation’s machine may not have to go through certain stages of verification to gain access to sensitive information regarding the business.
However, with how widespread mobile phones, the cloud, and various other technologies have become, we can no longer assume that all devices within a building or organisation are trustworthy.
Zero trust is a new model for weighing up threats to your IT infrastructure that cuts off all access to IP addresses, machines, and any sensitive information until the network knows you are who you say you are. This could be done through biometrics, passwords or even hardware security keys.
Zero trust goes beyond these simple actions though, and is really more of a mantra to hold while conducting yourself everywhere online, in order to maximise your cyber security.
