Managed Detection & Response (MDR) FAQs

Our Managed Detection and Response (MDR) service offers clients a new level of protection and visibility that we manage for them.

In this short video (edited transcript below), CEO Pete Woodward and CTO Nigel Peirce answer some of the more common questions we get asked about the MDR service and how it works.

What are the benefits of Managed Detection and Response (MDR) as a managed service?

  • It gives you peace of mind that you can look at a single dashboard and you can see the threats in your environment, both currently and at any given point in time.
  • It gives you the assurance that you are being continually monitored 24/7, 365 days of the year.
  • It gives you a team of specialist analysts with dedicated eyes-on-screen, who are always looking for trending threats and threat alerts for your systems and environment.

Ultimately, MDR gives you the peace of mind that someone’s watching over your environment.

How might an MDR service save you money?

The obvious saving is you don’t have to employ full-time security analysts, potentially at high cost in the current market, just to sit and watch logs and alert you to any anomalies etc. So that’s an immediate cost saving.

What about Managed Detection and Response (MDR) and cyber security insurance?

Cyber security insurance companies now are asking what kind of monitoring systems organisations have in place. If they don’t have anything, then they can see higher premiums.

How does MDR help with accreditations such as Cyber Essentials, Cyber Essentials Plus and ISO 27001?

A lot of our monitoring aligns to the government-led Cyber Essentials (and Cyber Essentials Plus) certification.

So we’re looking at the five key controls – for example, we can look at firewall perimeter security, we can monitor access levels and provide alerting.

There’s also a lot of alignment with ISO 27001.

And in general, we can align to pretty much all the standards out there to give you peace of mind that at any given point in time you are compliant with the required criteria.

What about MDR and PCI DSS compliance?

Yeah, it does cover all of the relevant requirements for PCI. So you can build your own building blocks to be pulled against those specific things.

And obviously, one of the key parts of PCI Data Security Standard is the concept of logging and monitoring, which Monikal and our managed MDR solution also fulfil.

Do I need a dedicated internal IT or security team to operate an MDR service?

A lot of organisations don’t have dedicated IT teams, which is why our monthly solution is perfect for them.

We give them reports. So, for example, every month, they’ll get an executive summary showing the health of their environment.

And again, as we mentioned earlier, that allows them to target resources to help bolster their security.

How difficult is onboarding for a Managed Detection and Response (MDR) solution?

The onboarding should take no more than an hour.

And the agent collector installation doesn’t require anything new in the system. And then once it’s installed and sending data back, we just take care of everything.

Can I trial your MDR service without cost or risk?

Absolutely, yes!

We can do proof of value and we can install really quickly.

We can give you the full dashboard or full functionality for you to trial for one, two or three months, however long it takes to assure you that this is a good product.

Why Securious for a Managed Detection and Response (MDR) managed service?

Well, if you’re in the South West, we’re local.

We’ve got a team of analysts and security experts to monitor your dashboard and alerts..

There are a lot of products out there that outsource the monitoring part of this, and these aren’t generally as productive as they can be.

We take pride in delivering a personal service to our clients, whether that’s local within the region or anywhere in the world because we can cover global organisations through our platform.

We’ve spent a lot of time and effort to develop what we’ve got and it hits that mid-level market at that price point that isn’t a massive expense to an organisation that takes cyber security seriously, but it is a full-blown enterprise solution service that we offer them.
